Welcome to the forum. Glad you found us, we've been waiting for you. Feel free to share some background on your time in the service and any stories/memories you may have from back in the day. Pics are welcome too.

I hope that is the correct avatar patch.

Tactical Air Command ... I know what Tac Air is and what it can do, but what kind of work does Tactical Air Command do? What is/was your mission? Not being cute, just want to know.

Certainly, we were one of two Air Guard units at the Greater Pittsburgh International Airport.
We had the A-7 Corsair II fighter-bombers and the 171st had the KC-130's (Air Refuelers). After we returned from the sandbox in May 1991 my unit was disbanded, and everyone merged with the 171st.

For the war, the cops and the medics were activated from the 112th. In Egypt, we guarded KC-135's (but we were under SAC not TAC if that makes any sense). We were the last stop between Germany and Saudi. I don't think that the Air Force has a TAC anymore, I believe that all merged with SAC. I was a "buck sergeant" E-4 too. The AF got rid of that rank after 1991.

At about that same time that we got home was my ETS (although I stayed in the IRR for two years). :)

Cool ... a piece of our force structure that I didn't know existed. I knew about the KC130s, but never gave it much thought.

Good to know ya!

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
