please add my unit 629 QM Co. Oakland Army Base

Post by Olga_roemer_knecht » Tue Nov 17, 2009 11:52 pm

Our Unit is 629 QM Co, (GREGG), Theater Mortuary, from Oakland Army Base, Ca.
We went thru Presidio of SF. Landed in Dhahran, KSA just 2 weeks after Thanksgiving 1990. Met Christmas in Dhahran, and saw our first casualty -a remains of the child floating in the waters of Persian Gufl. We recovered the remains and buried it under the stones on the shore. We were driving for hours and hours in to the desert with convoy - it seemed like forever. But finaly we arrived in wet soaked cold rainy desert near KKMC.
We were Theater mortuary.
We left KKMC in June 1991. I am looking for buddies from the Desert Shield /Desert Storm.
My rank in KSA was PFC Knecht, Olga E., and I was mortician.

SGT Roemer, last duty Fort Bragg NC 2004.

Thank you , I want to add photos from the Desert Storm.
After we established perimeter we were ready to recieve a large number of casualties, but as Arabs say: Alham Dulilla, praise be GOD, the war was short. (Thank you SCUD attacks and our USAF we watched them flying in Kuweit or North above us on the night when war broke up).
But we received casulaties and remains and we honored them on their way back home to CONUS and me too, I also just like all members in our unit, was on guard duty, one on one, talking to them and guarding the remains of soldiers flying back home, all night.

After war we used some coffins for storage.1 or 2. I dont want to give impression that we used coffins. just those whch were slightly damaged because of freight.
I slept in the body bag - because the pests mouses and rouches and spiders could not get there. Everybody did i think it was actually not bad.
The nights in December in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia desert North -were so cold and rainy.
but it temporary -- winter was short and we were busy building bunkers for the War.
I remember the night before the War stroke, our formation we huged each other and lock and load in our banker in full Anti bio warfare gear. Those who were near Emerald city or KKMC, remembers that it was a HUBZone for French foreign legionnaires and airbornes, Nigerian forces, Chech and Polish nurses and many others.
We were a great unit and I miss my brothers and sisters in arms.
LT Gordon was our Commander of the Company and he is in East Bay from San Francisco, Ca.
how can I upload our unit and individual photos to the Desert-Storm please?

Thank you and God Bless!
Happy Thanksgiving

Post your pictures in the Desert Shield/Storm Pictures category on the homepage of this forum.

How to Post Pictures on a Forum

Go to Photobucket.com or any other photo sharing site then:

1. Register a free account with them. Don't bother entering your cell phone number if they ask for that.
2. Go back to the PhotoBucket home page and click the button that says upload.
3. Click the browse button to browse for the image on your computer then upload it.
4. Look in the lower left hand corner, a thumbnail of your image should be there with a box labled IMG. Copy this code and paste it directly into your post here on this forum.

Alternate Method

If you have a URL like this that ends with .jpg or .gif:
http://www.example.com/somepic.jpg

Then you add it to your discussion like this so it shows up as a photo:

In many cases your picture would need to read like this:
http://www.example.com/somepic.jpg

That's it!

--------------------------------------

Go to http://imageshack.us/

"Browse" to the location on your PC where the image resides

Then click the "Host it" button

After the file is done uploading choose the appropriate image code from the list, "thumbnail for forums" is good

Left click on the code to highlight the code

Then right click and COPY the code.

Come back here and right click and PASTE the code into your next post.

Thank you MUCH!
here is my link on a Facebook.
But there are only a few photos from Desert storm courtesy of Internet.
And there are photos of me 1992-3 and later in VA.
I need to scan my photos from Desert Storm when I was there -you see, we were not allowed to make photos of the perimeter and so we did not. But we were allowed to make photos in the tent - what is not really special but memories and for freinds and family,
and around perimeter. As soon as I will get them scanned or I upload it to Desert Storm.
thank you for your instructions very very much!

the photos on my FACEBOOK page are three photos from Desert-Storm.com with reference to Desert-STorm.com
I have to scan my hardcopies because I did not do it previously and my life was very busy both in Army Reserve Special Ops, what I joined after Desert Storm, and in personal when I met and married SFC Mark Roemer, Special Forces and relocated in FayetteNAM.
in 1996 JUNE

PS: Mister Dagger X-Ray , I saw your posted message on Desert Storm Photos
and maybe it is my computer or something else in network but the photos I saw are disabled.
I will try another browser and will perform maintenance.

Your Unit was right next to mine, we were a rag tag bunch of various units put together to make a provisional transportation unit. I use to look at the flag pole in your compound to see if it was at half mast (KIAs were present).
