Naval Units Deployed

Post by jelliott » Fri Mar 12, 2004 9:13 pm

I was in Naval Mobile Construction Battalion One (NMCB-1) and served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm from Dec '90 to Mar '91. We were deployed on the ground with USMC (stationed in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia). The only units I see on your list under "Naval Units" are ships. I can't remember the other Seabee units that were deployed alongside or in relief of NMCB-1, but they should all be listed. Here's a website with more info: http://ww2.seabee.navy.mil. Thanks.

Another Seabee unit that I know of is the one I was in, NMCB 74, I was there for Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

the Navy unit NMCB-1 sounds familiar I can not be sure tho! I did work with a lot of Seabees while stationed at NAVCHAPGRU Williamsburg,VA, just wonder if NMCB-1 was sent back to to Persian Gulf for "Operation Vigilant Warrior" Aug95?

I was stationed with NMCB 40 (homeported out of Pt Hueneme) and assigned to 1st MEF. We arrived boots on ground in September of 1990 and began departing in March of 91.

I was also in NMCB-1 in Shield/Storm. I know we were a small detachment sent to increase Seabee presence. We were placed under the command of NMCB-5 in Al Jubail. Most of the NMCB-1 forces did not deploy to Saudi as they were already deployed to Rota, Spain. I think there were only about 100 of us that were sent. Hopefully, this info helps.
