Hot head
I recall wallking up the Highway of Death and seeing one of the corps in the trucks missing his head,,, i walked by him and said " hey, dont loose your head over it" and walked on, what the hell would make you have that kinda humor?,,,,,, When there were so many other corpses to make fun of.

Re: Hot head
Trying to cope ... trying to make sense of a bad situation ... that's what makes it happen ... better humor than other alternatives.

Re: Hot head
I remember walking along a portion of that and thinking "sure is hot out here" as I passed the burnt vehicles with the crispy Iraqis in them and aroun d them on the ground. It hadn't started stinking of dead rot yet and I am glad I wasn't around when it did. I just remember the smell of burnt tires & cooked meat.

Re: Hot head
Can still smell it. Bodies everywhere. We were on the highway 2 weeks. Bodies marked with kem lights so they would quit getting run over at night getting in trax in the road wheels between track pads all ground up with hair....... pieces of folks around.

Re: Hot head
I know everything I reply to is already a few years old, but I too have a "sick humor" story.
My section came across an enemy truck that was hit by something large caliber. The burnt remains of the vehicle had gaping holes torn into it. The drivers seat was still occupied by a half burn, half melted driver. Someone stuck an unlit cigarette in his mouth and we laughed till tears came down our faces as we quipped "smoking is bad for you".
Coping with the horrors of war, sometimes all you can do is laugh at the absurdity. I think it's a defense mechanism.
