A lot of things went un-appreciated or awarded. when you are out doin' stuff alone or with another unit as engineers we were bastards. Our unit didnt take care of us and our attached unit didnt.

Redfish, I can't agree with you because I don't know for sure, but I know that attached units didn't/don't get treated the same as assigned personell. It sucks/sucked, but it is what it is.

Be proud of what you did and what you are doing and the dumbshit fall elsewhere. I know what you guys did and thank you!

somethings i"m proud of, somethings not so proud of........but i guess we"re all like that. the one thing that we all can be proud of is that when our country called us, we went and did what we had to do.
bastards is right ! our company was split up bad, scattered to hell an back.
as combat engrs, we considered bastards......until they need our skill, then they love us.
i"m proud to call each one you my brothers & sisters, god bless
.

Wow haze. Same to you brother. We were split everywhere and sometimes alone. Top, it depends on which unit you were with and when. I remember being with 2/69 armor. They had the bad ass M1's. They took good care of me and us. I remember being with 4/41 artillery and they even forgot to feed us or give us water. It just came down to really the track commanders. They were who we were assigned to when you go right to it. That was when we were not on a task or a mission.

it was funny... heading across that desert, everybody kept their distance from us, if they could, guess they did"nt want to be by that m113 loaded to the gills with, c4, crating charges, shape charges, satchel charges(fun, fun). an a little trailer that we was pulling called a mic-lic.

One of my favorite stories was one day in Iraq after the cease fire I believe we were in perimeter and we started getting incoming. We all scattered. I was only a truck with another guy when it came to me. I said hey man, we're under the f $%$ ing fuel truck!!! We got out from under there!!

lol redfish,
that reminds me of a funny story also. we"d gotten ace vehicles a few weeks earlier, along with drivers, fresh from A.I.T. !!anyway, we crossed trained a guy from our squad to be backup driver for the ace. kid was 18/19 (i was 20), he was scared, but who could blame him, new in country, no friends there...nuttin...we treated him good though.
weeks later ground war started, he help bust through the burms with the ace, but he ended up riding with us in the m113, think they flipped to see who drove it. the feller was sittin there, as we went threw the burms, i sat down beside him , an started to light a cigarette, when he started yelling no!! i said what?? your going to blow us up!!! i just continued to light my smoke and said relax... look around you, your sitting on a few mines now, a couple hundred pounds of c4, shape charges, cratering charges wired an ready to go, not counting ammo, rockets etc. (the shape charge i was sitting on was packed in 1950) if we get hit bad, we"re not going to feel a thing, why do you think they had us turn in our personnel effects that we wanted our families to have? cause there won"t be shit left of us!!! that feller did"nt think it was too funny though. said now i know why everybody said you all (ya"ll) are crazy!!! we all got a kick outts that, think us laughing at that did"nt help his opinion of us .

Funny Haze. I remember Skip or Chip. He drove the ACE. They decided it would be better than dozers. We used them anyway. They were faster. Remember we welded steel plates around the driver. I know about the smoking. I remember heating coffee burning my C-4. Remember it smelled so good. Almost like candy.

man I just typed a whole mess of stuff, and this crap timed out and asked for me to log in  anyway in summary my dd 214 reads " national defence service medal with 2 bronze stars" and i don't know why 8O , but some of my buddies said that "task force 2/7" (a crack team made of scouts ,2 line companies,GSR from M.I. and some brits) were the only receipients of that combination :!: so the award thing is fishy to me  and my AAM I received way before desert storm is not on it(dd 214) nor is my combat field medical badge  which to medics is the top honor 2nd only to being an 18D (spc frc medic) :!:

I think we all got the to bronze stars on the award. I did. I think it had to do with the award itself. Like clusters. My DD214 has been ok. I've been told it needs to be updated like Haze and the gang on here have been fighting to do. I just really have not been motivated to get it done.

I saw soldiers in my Battalion get Bronze Star Awards for "non combat achievement". Meaning they were several miles behind the FLOT and were never in any "real danger".
