I served in Desert Storm from Dec. 1990 - Dec. 1991 as a Navy Medic. I was deployed with the 1/24th Marine Battalion out of Detroit, MI (now based at Selfridege ANG Base in Mount Clemens, MI). My question: Is there a deployment patch that I am authorized to wear from that deployment? I am currently serving on active duty in the Army as a Staff Sergeant in the 109th MI BN, 201st MI BDE at Fort Lewis, WA. I was told different stories pertaining to wearing a deployment patch from Desert Storm as a member of the Army and having served in Desert Storm as a member of the Navy, and I want to get my facts straight. Thanks.

I don't think that the Marines are authorized combat patches. I know the Army is but since you were a Marine you can't wear an Army one for that time. Right now I am at SANG in a class. This place is like a ghost town.

Service members who particpated in a conflict and not part of the Army, are not authorized to wear a wartime SSI of the Army unit they were attached too. The only exception are the Marines from WWII who could wear the USMC patch that were authorized back in the 40's.
