Hi, I am new here. I am wondering what (pills etc.. )were given to soldiers before going to Desert Storm?
My fiance was a Marine and was preparing to go. He took the pills, medication etc that they gave them but literally the day they were going to leave the orders were cancelled. They took all that stuff for nothing. My fiance is now having major medical problems. Fibromyalgia has been diagnosed, burning and tingling in the arms and legs, memory problems, constatant pain. He is only 40 years old. Can the stuff given to him in the Core be the reason such a young person is in so much pain? I would love to look up the medications given. My cousin went to Desert Storm and passed away from massive cancer tumors all throughout his body. He was in his early 30's. :( Also a Marine.

Anyone have a list of what was given?

Thank you so much!!!

Welcome to the forums and I am sorry to hear about your husband and your cousin.

I was given several shots (names unknown) prior to depoying myself and another half dozen shots whilst in the desert itself to supposedly prevent anthrax and botulism. I also carried several boxes of the Pyridostigmine Bromide (PB), pills and took them often during my time in the desert.

I currently hurt from head to toe myself, suffer from Depression, PTSD and Anxiety. I have Inner Ear Canal Disease which is service connected. I am about to finally file for disability for most of the above.

I wish I could help you with some of the info, have you searched the internet about this type of info yet? Start Googling !

We didn't recieve any pills, just the shot cocktail. I remember the yellow fever shot hurt so bad. I believe there was a GG shot that hurt as well. I know nothing hurt like the anthrax shot in the ass then being loaded into the bed of a 5 ton and bounced across the desert.

We got shots at Stewart in Aug. consisting of Anthrax, Botulism, Hepatitis, Tetanus and flu. We enjoyed the PB pills after we got on the Iraqi border and were instructed to take one pill every 8 hours. We found the shots SSDD; but, the pills were concerning to us cuz we never heard about that before with NBC training just epi pins. Then after the cease fire, they wanted the pills that we had not taken AND the wrappers from the packages and boxes back. I was SO suspicious I kept an empty package and took it home with me. I have long since lost it but I did research it when I got home.

When we were getting the shots and processing done in Germany, I remember one guy in the unit got a double dose of the GG. After dropping his drawers and got it in the left cheek, he was told to go to the next station. He just stepped sideways and the other medic got him in the other cheek. He was done walking for the day. He ended up getting into some trouble later and didn't even deploy.

I recieved a volly of shots before deployment to Saudi Arabia, plus we were ORDERED to take the little white pills that would supposedly "cure anthrax". We all had to sign the consent form and take the pills, two at the time and two later. The medic there told me that they were not approved by the FDA.

The little white pills were Pyridostigmine Bromide (my spelling may be a little off but I think it's right) or PB. It is a common prescription medication for Myasthenia Gravis. It works by blocking nervous system responses inside the synaptic gap. It was the military's idea of pre-medicating against nerve agent poisoning. My concern is if it is still in some of us. It was not FDA approved @ that time. The doses given were off I'm sure as well. Wonder if that is why some of us don't respond right to stimuli and why some of us have nervous system diseases. You were probably vaccinated against Anthrax, Hepititis, Botulism, Tetnus, Influenza and I can only imagine what else.

we where told that the pills, had"nt been tested on humans, that they could"nt be used till a time of war. i think i still got a package somwhere, going to look for them the next time i go to my mothers . i got a copy of my shot records out of my med file before i left the army....don"t ask how  but the ones that they gave us over seas aren"t on there. seems if you had anything done over there its gone/lost now.

Yea, i dout anybodys medical record would show anything, i always laugh when they say "we'll order up your medical records." for what? LOL. they didnt give a physical before we left, and not one when we got out, so what kind of science is that?

Those would have likely been Gamma-gobulin; two big@ss shots, one in each buttcheek about the consistency of wet cement. They are a generic "immune booster" that last about 6 months.

The anthrax shots given to us over there were "old type" vaccines with alot of known problems and side effects. Since then, they have redone the vaccine and it is supposedly safer now. I heard on the radio that the blood bank was actually looking for people who were given the antrhax vaccine in the first Gulf War in order to draw blood from them to titer out the antibodies to form new vaccine or some such.

Biggest thing I recall was we got a huge amount of shots and then off to Stewart we went and spent a week sicker-n-shit.
