What the hell does it take to get a disbabled parking thing for the car?

Most states have a form that your doctor fills out then you take it to the DMV and they can issue you a handicap placard to hang from your mirror. I had a temporary one when I was on crutches recently.

It will take you have a problem with walking, or your lungs, or being 100% with the VA.

Ge the form from the DMV for your doctor to sign. If you are 100% or if you are IU and T&P take your letter from the VA to the DMV to get the plate.

In most states you can get one plate and one place card or two place card.
BTW what unit was you in with the 2nd BDE

Thanks for the info, I ask because I see all these people with Disabled Parking tags and placards with obvious less issues than myself yet when I inquired after tearing the menescus in my knee and having trouble walking 20' I was almost laughed at.

I was a Brigade puke. I worked a Manuever Control System in HHC 2nd Bde under Colonel Moreno. I was also the S-3 track "target" commander of the hunk-a-junk M577 we had to manuever around in. That P.O.S. went through 3 different torgue converters over there in a 2 month timeframe, at one point we even canabalized 1 Iraqi owned M577 for one of the converters.

4-5 FA supported out brigade, I remember the F/A track setup at the Brigade TOC. Don't remember teh Sgts name but there was one guy that was pretty cool over there working the radios for 4-5 FA.

well, i went to my c & p yesterday. ist. one was for my hearing, the second was mental health.... it took about 2 1/2 hrs. for that one. think it went pretty good, wished that i'd knowed that they was planning that one. knew i had 2 appointments, but the paper did'nt say what was the second one.
if i'd known i'd brung notes, etc. but instead i had to wing it. had to leave a couple times, then come back in , the doc, took notes on how i acted while we was talking, what my reaction was, he listened, and watch me, the whole time, at the end of our talk, he told me how many times i left the room, stopped in mid sentance, etc.
think it went pretty good, except the hearing test was b.s.

i'd love to hear from several of you on what was asked and so on. I'd also like to read some of your letters and spouse letters as I have no idea what to write nor does my wife.

redfish wrote:At my C&P, I had to fill out a PTSD questionaire before seeing the doc. He read over that and asked questions from my answers. Very straight forward. Do you have:
Nightmares
flashbacks
panic attacks
trouble sleeping
anger problems
hypervigilance
relationship issues
drug or alcohol abuse
lack of emotion or feelings
inability to socialize
etc...
Each one also asked how often.

I had to look back. I could'nt remember. He asked what my normal day was like. Haze's sounds totally different than mine.
Your stressor letter should include (according to my psych PA) how you were before and after the war. It should be specific and include how you felt before during and after the war. My wife wrote how I have gotten worse and what I do and how I act with things. It took like a week for me to write it. I can PM you my actual letter but I don't thing it would do anything for ya.

I haven't kept track of anything over the years, as I read things you guysd write it brings back memories of different times over the years I reacted a certain way and times that I freaked out over something that would be considered piddly by others. When I get my wife to write her letter, I want to be able to show her examples of what other wives have seen or observed so she has an idea of what she remembers of my past to write about.

My letter like this:
I stated that I was a normal fun kid before storm. During storm, this and this and this happened. He was killed and him and these guys were wounded. I felt guilty and sad. I was afraid and scared. The war just stopped and we went home. I couldn't sleep. Nightmares same everynight. Started drinking heavy. Got dui's, jail, on third marriage, kids don't talk to me, moved to 5 different states, buncha different jobs. Quit drinking started working every day. Now no friends, not close to family. Feel guilty, angry etc. Don't feel things, consider suicide. Wanna stab self at least I would feel that.

Wife like this:
I met him. He was kind and caring. He has changed. He is angry and breaks things in rages. He scares me. I've restrained him because he goes after people for little things. The kids are afraid. Called police several times. He drinks at times heavy and then talks about war. Does not talk about war otherwise. I've missed work to keep him from killing self. Afraid he will try again. He never sleeps and I afraid he's getting worse.

I would paste my wife's letter on here but she hand wrote it and we didn't keep a copy.
