Sorry can't offer you any tips, I was one of the fortunate ones that so far hasn't had any problems. But I wish you the best of luck in finding some new evidence and getting the help you need and deserve.

Find the worksheet for your particular condition on the VA's website and take it with you when you see the doctor ... have him follow it, fill it out, and put it in your medical records ... then send a copy of the worksheet to the VA with your claim.

Review the worksheet before you see your doctor ... that way you have an idea about what will be asked so you can be prepared.

The worksheets are located at this website:
http://www.vba.va.gov/bln/21/Benefits/exams/index.htm

Good luck.

well, i went to a neurologist today that the va sent me too. i liked the doc, nurses, a real good appointment, they listened, and gave me a pretty good exam. I did mention the fact that i was a gulf vet, that my unit was in the exposure zone.also about the shots, pills,etc...i felt pretty good about it when i headed for home. this was a private doc that the va sent me too, dunno what the deal is on that one.

They are getting so swamped with the soldiers coming in these days that I believe they are outsourcing some of the work now. My VA has sent me outside for some studies also.

Another resource for all who have unexplained illnesses, or exposure concerns:

http://www.warrelatedillness.va.gov/wri ... ferral.asp

I fought for a couple of years to get a referral to be seen by these folks and finally got it. The visit was good. They did a very thorough exposure history, social history, and medical review. No results yet, but I was the focus for two days.

High recommend this to anyone from DS, or OIF, or OEF.

Thats a heck of a way for me to travel to be evaluated. I just cannot afford something like that. A shame too.

Dagger,

They have three centers in the U.S. They paid for my flight, provided travel to and from both airports, and provided lodging ... I had to buy my own meals.

They approached me about that wriscc assessment in Washington, DC. Like Top said it was an expense paid trip except the food. I have not gone but the more of us go maybe they will find something. Mostly they were gonna check my EEG for unknown seizure activity if there was any. The doc's thought that might explain my rage outbursts and possibly some flash back activity. I probably will go when they schedule it.

well.... the VA strikes again...just when i found a doc (neurologist) that i like, and seems to care, i gotta change docs. i got a letter thursday from the va, telling me that my va hospital can now take appointments for neurologist vists. that if i wanted to see the private doc that they sent me to i"d have to pay for it ,not them. been trying to reach the va friday, no luck at it yet. this really sucks!!!
i'm gonna have to see the va"s doc, no way my ins. will pick up all the testing, an such, .... again this sucks!!!

Go to the VA hospital's Chief of Staff of staff and tell them you want to keep the neurologists that you have. They can do it on a 'fee basis' ... if you can convince them it is in your best interest.

If you have private insurance, see if you can still see him through them while also seeing the VA Neurologist, this way you can present paperwork from both sides to help your case.
