I filled for copensation in June of 2007 and all that I have recieved so far is the standard we got your claim letter and two we are still working on your claim letters. I have yet to be scheduled for an exam. I do understand that there is a one year backlog on claims due to the recent wars. If I hear anything I will post it here for everyone to see.

Patience, patience, and more patience ... I said this before ... I've been working on my claim since '96 ... hope it goes better for you than it has for me.

Get used to those letters. The back log is 2.5 years just to have your case reviewed for the 1st time. As I've said before, it took me 11 years to get my full disability rating even though my condition has been the same over that period. It is a rare thing for you to get the rating you deserve on the first filing. Don't lose faith and don't quit fighting, you'll get there eventually.

All I can tell you is that it did take quite a while to get a disability rating.. First they put me at 10% then we had a review. It finally took my Civillian doc to put me out of work.. Then it still took 6 months or so...

I just got a letter from the VA telling me to get all my medical records to them. I think that I am going to have to take a day off from work to get all of them and send them to the VA.

Pay for the postage yourself and send it Registered Receipt Return Requested mail. That way you are sure they got to where they are going. Don't send them straight to the VA either, send them to your VSO who will submit them for you after making a copy of them to keep on file in case the VA loses you files.

Call your civilian doctor ahead of time and make the request. Expect to be charged per page for your civy medical records. I priced mine, since my civy doc has been treating me for a lot I dont get treated for in the VA, and I was quoted $1 per page for the first 25 pages then $.25 per page afterwards. My civy med records file is about 4 inches thick.

Thank you for the advice, I will be taking care of this in the next couple of weeks. Should I submit records for things that I haven't applied for? (Like mental health records if I'm not submitting for PTSD?)

SUBMIT ALL OF YOUR RECORDS. That way they have a copy of EVERYTHING... So if you decide to make a claim later on, you will be able to.. Knowing that They have gotten all of it already...

If you've been out of work for 6 months apply for SS disability as well.

The first cont. i had with the V.A. was when they sent me letter saying that i was elig. to rec. V.A. bennifits . This was in 2005. At that point i had been out for 13 years. I filed a claim on line. About 3 mons. ago and have rec. 2 letters saying ther are working on my claim. The letters come in the middle of the month .
