We pause to reflect and to remember the heroes of that day; and the heroes that continue to dedicate themselves
on a daily basis to our nation, to serving others, and to protecting the precious freedoms we enjoy. We remember
those on the ground and in the air that day; the fire fighters, police officers, military members, passengers on the
American and United flights, those in the World Trade Center, and countless ordinary citizens that offered help.
We remember their families and loved ones.I would like to add to the families, 'Your loved one was on duty for
America at the moment of their death." Today, as we walk and stand beside the families of those who died on
this day 10 years ago and that have died on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan, in training accidents or
by suicide - regardless of the circumstance or geography of the death - and we join together to remember
the sacrifices made and to honor those who were "on duty for America at the moment of their death."
