Found this bit in the article mentioned:
Quote:
The hundred hours of the ground war were spent processing prisoners and negotiating around bombed locations. Iraq accepted a ceasefire on February 28 without ever really fighting.

I (we, my unit) actually spent very little time processing pows, and negotiated a lot of bombed locations, and also had quite a fight on a couple of different occasions.

I take this article the same way I took the idea that air power alone could win any battle ... one sided and diminishing for the folks on the ground in the fight.

But, yes, it does have some good info on the air campaign if the author had only left out the slight against the ground forces.

A t-62's maximum effective range of 2.7 kilometers (if I remember right) will still be 2.7 kilometers, planes or no planes. They fought back, they just couldn't touch us with direct fire. They could and did reach us with indirect. Fortunately, our team got it stopped pretty quickly when they lobbed it at us. Maybe others didn't and becam more suseptable to chemicle exposure? I believe the air war did a number on them, but if it was so reliable, why was it a surprise whenever we ran into them? Particularly the way they were dug in. You'd think we'd recieve along some BDA and/or battle positions to anticipate.

I'm glad the air folks did what they did. They caused a huge amount of damage and demorilized a huge number of potential fighters ... but they didn't get 'em all.

Loved the fly boys. They really kicked some ass; however, the RGF fought. Many surrendered. But, many did not. They fought down to the last man in some instances. Many surrendered but I recall seeing some who had engaged us with AK's after their track was down. I remember some being run over because they stood their ground.

I did not see anybody from the airforce clearing bunkers one at a time.

3,000 feet is a little different than 3 feet. Hard to TASTE combat from a cock pit.

They tore it up for sure...but it ain't the same. Four legs to the table. With out all four legs, the table falls.
