I took my youngest to it because he wanted to experience what his old man did. It was a different movie. We crossed trained with the marines over there and to think I shook their hands and I thought they had that cramp from holding their rifles too long.

I'm glad I didn't have a girlfriend or a wife then, I couldn't imagine getting a tape in the mail like that one guy did, Deer Hunter.

That floored me cuz I really wasn't expecting it yet wasn't surprised either. We had an armorer in my Bn in Germany that got something like that on a Friday, went into the armory and blew his head off that night and they didn't find him until Monday morning.

I really enjoyed Jarhead the first time I saw it in theatre. Now that I own the DVD, I watch it at least one time a day. Not because I'm a fool and I hope the story will be different but I like to feel like I'm one of them, back in the military... and back in 1991! Some people says that this movie is boring, but it's not. It's realistic, that's it. It perfectly shows the military environment; a bunch of young guys, waiting for something to happen, but once that something is here, they don't really appreciate it... In fact they don't wanna be there at all. Anyways... it's the way I see things! Later guys!

Well one side of the movie it did show how crazy life can be in the military. I was a Doc with the Marines and we partied every chance we got, because you just never know when it maybe your last time to live life. The movie did have it stupid shit spots. all in all i am glad i waited for the dvd to come out.

Its just an animated gif...several pics layered over each other and shown one after the other.

I think GifWorks.com can create them but I might be wrong.

I watched the movie the other night and had mixed feelings about it. I watched it the first time and was angry with the way they made the Marine Corps. look like a bunch of unproffesional idiots who just pissed all over themselves. First of all I guarantee that Swafford did not have any drunken parties in the dessert. Alcohol was not allowed in Saudi Arabia. And it definetly would not have been tolerated by the command. I have never seen a Marine Corps drill instructor with a mustache, and what was up with this total obsession with bodily functions. Shitting, talking about shitting, stirring shit. Masterbation, two scenes of Marines pissing on themselves. Homosexual overtones galore. The shower scene and the field fuck which I have never heard of. Dancing naked with one another. Is there any doubt that this movie came from people who hated the Marine Corps. There were so many problems with this movie that I couldn't begin to cover them all. I personally experience at least four or five different times of getting bombed with mortar rounds and artillery. And even some small arms fire. I was disappointed with the lack of combat portrayed in the movie. But I watched the movie several times and stayed up all night drinking by myself. It did bring back some memories that I had forgotten. Oh yea the scene where the Marine panics and gets shot in the head that would have ended so many careers in the marines that it is not even funny. And the oil fires were lit before the ground war started. Also to the army tanker if you read this, I seen your post about your buddy the amtracer. "Just drove amtracs" Amphibious Assault Vehicle crewmen is one of the hardest jobs in the Marine Corps. Ask any Marine who dealt with tracs if they have respect for them. Oh yea who was your buddy maybe I know him?[/code]

For me this a movie of my war.I was a e-4 young and cocky and full of myself just as the Marines in the movie. While it doesn't truely reflect what i did most of the feeling and mentality was the same.Jarhead is a fairy close look at what it was like to be a young Marine at war,in life, and how we all deal with it.

Movie "Star" Jake Gyllenhaal, has shocked American Gulf War veterans by joking they did nothing but "masturbate" during their time in the desert in 1991. The cheeky 25-year-old stars in JARHEAD, a movie exposing the US soldiers' lack of combat in the Middle Eastern conflict. He said, "The US soldiers were sent to the desert for 122 days and they sat in the same tent and did nothing, except a little too much masturbating."

I don't think I need to say much more...I have banned this Trolls movies in my home, and I would be happy to voice a few coice words to this bonehead.

Scouts Out!

Yes, That movie sucked, it was no way close to reality in the Corps. He did so much insane stuff that would have had him in the brig or NJPed in any of the units I was with. I remember the event about the movie. I believe the movie was Rambo (the first one) and it was two guys doing the girl and the SSgt walked out of the tent and shot himself in the head with his Berreta. And another thing I remember was the secret shots we got. It had them just signing the paper. What I remember of that event, We were marched up to a big tent and told to sign a paper that had no explanation only Secret stamped at top and bottom and a bunch of horizontal line to sign on. Then we were march thru the tent and got a shot in the arm. When I say marched, I mean enlisted. Officers could opt out and most of ours did because they were informed as to it being experimental but we were left in the dark. I never had all the time he had either. I worked 12 to 18 hour days and I was beat any time off was rack time. I was over there for 9 months and only got to see 1 movie, Mad Max (the first one). I never got sent to Bahrain for R&R or sent to see any USO show. Our 1stSgt and an officer got to see Brooke Shields at a show. Also we weren't allowed to take pictures either as our 1stSgt was to do this for us so we could keep an eye out for the enemy instead of looking for the next Pulizer prize or whatever. Once on an escort mission I saw a M1 that had fallen off the lowboy that had been carrying it and it was upside down. We were doing escort duty so we pulled over and our XO said I couldn't take a pic of it because of something to do with operational security, it didn't make sense to me and we left it because it was going to be to long to get fixed and we couldn't really help (The 3 of us couldn't have lifted the M1 up and put it back on the lowboy) so we went on guarding the moving convoy. Now they tape video cameras to tops of tanks and take pictures of all kinds of stuff. We never got to play any football or anything like that either. We pulled guard duty when we weren't doing our primary jobs or loaded ammo belts or went out patrolling or got put on details of filling up sand bags. I never even got to play any cards. The only game we had was throwing bayonets at big rats. I don't remember ever getting one tho. I do remember this guy braking his bayonet tho.
