Double ramyon with egg and cheese. I only spent a couple of months at casey ... actually ...

We moved the entire 1/15th FA battalion in one huge ass convoy from Stanley to Hovey. Dropped our rear gear at Hovey, two days later rail loaded to chun chon, road marched to Wonju for TS 87 or 88 for a month, road marched back to Chun Chon, railheaded back to Hovey, moved from Hovey to Casey, dropped our rear gear, and road marched up around the Munsan area to assume the 4-P-3 mission for 30 days.

Damn long time on the move ... and of course it was all done in the 2ID 'think war' mode.

Don't know about sharing the same lady ... I stayed away from the whores ... too much to risk as a senior nco.

Can't remember the name of the place that I used to hang out, but it was easy going and quiet.

Thunder runs .... oh yeah ... different story. Got a ride to my barracks one night with BG Luck, division commander. We were on a thunder run and I got seperated from my battery. They stirred up so much shit that I was dodging and weaving through the hornets trying to find them. Ran into the CG who had heard from the MPs that the ville was rowdy and he 'escorted' me back to my barracks ... he was cool about it, no harm, no foul.

Good times, but man you had to stand up for yourself or get over run.

You were there for the Olympics then. As if it wasn't wacko enough.

I left before the olympics. 85 - 88 was a rough tour. We did a lot of alerts and rollouts to keep the north on edge. I learned later that that time period was one of the most tense since the 70's.

I have a Korean flyer that says Kim Il Sung died ... South Korea went on alert, we went on alert, then he showed up three days later in Libya or some such.

1/15th was the only self-propelled artillery unit in Korea, other than the 8", which is a general support artillery piece. We had three missions to conduct in the event of hostilities and we drilled them ... hard. Very mission focused.

Then the olympic window started showing up and we were supposed to stand down but remain vigilant. I left before they stood down.

I think I only spent two or three months at casey, the rest was at Stanley.

I got there just after the olympics. I had a friend of mine fall in that nasty river in TDC one night. He was covered in black ooze. I cried laughing at him and ran all the way back to post. We did a lot of demo work over there. It was a lot better than state side at Benning. I hated the Army there. Picking up cigarette butts on the roads all day. Nothing to do but piddle. Field problems were a joke compared to TS and the ROK.

I was told early in my very first tour to Korea (76) that the whole penninsula was training area. That proved to be so true ... we shot guns from rice paddies, river beds, roads, outskirts of villages, fired over roads, rivers, and villages. Korea was the "last best place to soldier' according to 2ID propaganda at the time.

'course now with Irag, Afghanistan, and wherever else, Korea seems almost tame, but for the idiot up north.

You right about that idiot up north. Bona fide fool. Super freak. Even looks like a freak. I've been afraid there was gonna be a throw down over there for years. Korea is not where I wanna go fight. COLD!!!. Conventionally speaking though I believe we have no equal in the world right now. China scares me but only cuz the number of them. Good training area though that's true. Lots of real experience available now though like ya said. Probably why I hated stateside duty so much. Worthless waste of man power. Fort Ord in California was good. Training center there with OP 4 was quality good stuff.

It was for NTC. Our BDE from Kelly Hill @ Benning went to desert training center ahh....February 1990. Op 4 kicked our ass up and down the desert. Then, they said in our after action that we did really well. Quality, realistic, good wholesome training for desert combat.

That would not be Ord, that would be Ft. Irwin. Ft. Ord is on the Monterey Bay ... an hour or so south of San Fransisco. Ft. Irwin was tough ... op four were bad assess for sure.

Ahhh yes. Irwin. Loved op-4. Taught us how to be what we we gonna be in Iraq. Glad the RGF was not as good as op-4 or we may have had more stories.

No shit. If the RG wanted to fight, they could have caused a whole lot more trouble ... I hated to see their condition, but I'm glad they didn't have the will to fight.

The Tawalkana fought though ... they were trying to leave and got blind-sided by 2ACR.

Yep. A few pockets of RGF did stand their ground. Damn shame some of it. Some left their tracks because of the accuracy we had. They fought Bradleys with AK's.
