How 'bout some Desert Shield Trivia....?

Post by wmebert » Mon Feb 14, 2011 4:31 pm

I wasn't over in Saudi Arabia for Desert Shield until mid-September of 1990 and I'm not sure when AFN went "live" but I heard this as a Jeopardy question one night & found it interesting;

What was the 1st song AFN played when they began broadcasting during Desert Shield :?: :roll:

No clue... The only time I had to listen to the radio was for a few minutes when I hit my rack.

Wikipedia wrote:In January 1991, the network dispatched news teams and technicians to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. These broadcasters reported to families of soldiers deployed from Europe, and staffed a number of the U.S. radio stations making up the Armed Forces Desert Network. The first song on the air after the start of the ground offensive was Rock the Casbah by The Clash.
I remember hearing this before.
