Post by redfish » Tue Feb 08, 2011 8:21 am

Recently I was asked if we were going back to Iraq. I've thought about it and decided I would go. I'm taking some better stuff this time though. I want a better stereo and definitely better food. Oh, and I'm leavin all these damn pills stateside!

Thats easy, I'd start by taking less than a 1/4 of the crap they made me take the first time, a bigger shovel, a larger sleeping bag, a digicamcorder, a cell phone, and a blowup doll

I agree, those damn pills were staying stateside.

It's a whole different ballgame over there now. Barracks (well, trailers..), Mess Halls, SHOWERS!! Email, Laptops with webcams, GPS small enough to fit in your hand as opposed to the huge thing the LT carried (and were damned glad we had!!), Cell phones, text messaging.... Nothing like we had where it took 2 weeks to get a letter from home or needing to wait 6 hours in line to make a 5 minute call home the few times we were at our base camp. And then the wife back home had to figure out how to pay that bill as well as everything else she was dealing with. I had 1 hot shower in the 8+ months I was over there. The rest were cold "get in, get wet, turn off the water valve, soap up, rinse off, & get out" showers. I went from 16 DEC 90 to 24 MAR 91 and only had 1 shower in those 3 & 1/2 months! We had whore baths otherwise. The life of the Combat Arms Soldier!!

I think a quad fifty is in order for this trip Plenty of ammo plenty of beer, steaks and charcoal and a grill big enough to tailgate for all of us.
