Where will you be on the 20th anniversary of Desert Storm?

Post by MMeilleur » Fri Sep 17, 2010 2:25 am

I moved to Kuwait shortly after liberation and have lived there since. (Let's not go into the whys and hows...)

But almost every Feb 25/26 since, I have travelled out of Kuwait. India, Nepal, anywhere but face the maddening mess that is National Day and LIberation Day in Kuwait. Basically young people cruising up and down the Gulf Road stopping only to hop out of their cars and spray other people with foam.

About a year ago, I (figuratively) put my old jump boots on and went to the Amiri Diwan (the Kuwaiti White House) and saw an advisor to the Amir and asked him what Kuwait was going to do for the 20th anniversary?
Big parade?
Invite Daddy Bush and Shwarkskof? All the ex-POWs and Gold Star Moms? That would be nice.
Memorial with dedication?

Answer?
The advisor he didn't know.
To my knowledge nothing has been planned.
Should we petition/pressure the Kuwait Embassy in Washington or can I take your notes back to the Amiri Diwan or what?

Where will you be?
Me, probably drinking on some beach in Goa.

My thoughts?

It's their country ... let them do what they want ... or not ... up to them ... no outside pressure.

i"m also with top an redfish on this. but still it would be sorta nice to have a memorial listing the fallen from every country that helped liberate their country in 91. not one for us that are left, but one for those that lost their lives , so that their names are never forgotten nor the price they paid .....if one was ever built, it should be that way.... my option,,,,not that, that counts for much.

There You go , a site to remember those who never came home , so that Kuwait could be their home again .

It's their country and their choice . Let them decide .

or at the very least, on a specific day/time a reading of the fallen.....hell our own country don't do that , so we can"t really expect another country to do it.

I think it is noteworthy that most agree that it is their country and that we believe they are free to do as they wish ... maybe pass this on if you get a chance.

I would love to see a memorial for our soldiers that are gone now. My unit lost one during the war. I have lost 3 more friends since the end of it. I have my combat patch tattooed on my right arm for all of them.

Kuwait is planning a biggie 50 year of independence and 20 year since liberation

i'll stay if you'll come, we could venture out in the desert for a drink and smoke up
