Haze, funny you should ask. My great great something or other came into Kentucky with Boone. My great grandgather came to Louisiana from Danville, Kentucky after the Civil War to start the newspaper in the little town of Marksville. I think it must be in the genes. BTW, it didn't always go so smooth either. I knew of three blowing up while I was over there; and these weren't little pops either. Usually the water got turned off for some reason and the still overheated, fumes got loose and then something triggered it. Usually blew a wall out or sent the garage door across the street. And you are right about fixin it right. If the stuff was only run once and there was a lot of stuff left in it the body got pretty much poisoned. Horrible experience.

We've been in a quiet stretch for a minute or two. Hope you're good explorer. Hey did you change your characters names or are they the actual names? I'm asking because I'm wanting to write a book about my father's childhood.

I did change most of them. Kept some like Stormin Norman, Crown Prince Abdulla and a few people back home in Farmerville. My wife threateded to divorce if I didn't change her frist name. The publisher also puts a disclaimer in the book that everything and everybody is ficticious. Sort of like the book "All the Kings Men" by Robert Penn. Suppose to be fiction but was actually almost a complete biography of Huey Long. BTW, if you are interested, and you probably are not, I did a totally non-fiction book last year called "I Called Him Grand Dad. The Lost Political Papers of Harvey G. Fields." It helped clarify and capture a little of our country's history that was discovered 45 years after he died. If you have any questions about your book please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Hey, 20 years ago and Baghdad Betty was broadcasting. I could just pick up the broadcast on my radio in Abqaiq. Remember an early broadcast. "To the American Fighting Man in the Saudi Arabia desert (followed by lead in trumpets and arabic music and then the words) Why are you here. You should be home with your wives and girl friends. They are with other men. They are with movie stars. They are with movie stars like Paul Newman, Robert Redford and .........Bart Simpson". I roared with laughter. They really blew that one.

Hope everyone is having a great week end.

Congratulation and thank you for remembering us. So many times I feel that we have been forgotten....

Lousiana,

Thanks for the info! I will definately look into it.

There is a big hole left from not being able to read like I used to. When I was going to college in Boston i was reading 2-3 books a week (for pleasure) on the train ride in, then I would do a lot of my studies reading on the way home. Audio books are a nice fill in but I really miss holding a book and becoming part of the story.

Well Haze, Tricky89, 20 years ago today we set foot on Saudi soil. I've found this to be a little emotional for me surprisingly.

Happy anniversry. First of September is usually brutally hot in Arabia and if you are near the coast the humidity is starting to get really high. Sept. 3rd, you were an early arrival.
