I got out in 93'. I went through my Senator to get my medals & ribbons.

I received the Kuwait Liberation Medal that was issued by Saudi Arabia (in the nice little green box). 8)

I never received the medal from Kuwait though. I should look into it.

Contact your Congressman or Senator. They will do an inquiry for you with the appropriate agency. In my city (Pittsburgh, PA), I've seen them help WWII vets get their medals (it was on television). Good Luck!

I'm not sure about the three. I know about the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia) and the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait). What is the other?

Fill out a Standard Form 180.

In Section II, Item 2 (Other Information and/or Documents Requested) put this:

1) Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait) 2) Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia) 3) Any other awards not previously issued or awarded 4) Updated DD 214 (DD215).

This took care of it for me.

Here's a good website that I used:

OK Guy's,

Obviously you need a woman to straighten this out.... :D
The medals for serving in Operation Desert Shield/ Desert Storm are:

National Defense Medal
South West Asia Service Medal
Saudi Arabia's Liberation of Kuwait Medal
Kuwait's Liberation of Kuwait Medal

There is also a Commemerative Medal called the Liberation of Kuwait Commemerative Medal, which does not go on the DD215. There are several Commemerative Medals that you can hang in your shadow box that you don't need orders for, you just buy them yourself. Some are for marksmanship too.

I have used http://www.medalsofamerica.com/

I think all these medal and military supply places are very similar. I definitely agree with getting your Congressman and/ or Senator involved to get you straightened out with your paperwork. Good Luck!

When we got back we were the SGT Majors boys, but when I was discharged I was told I didn't go over there. When I showed the dude the orders that sent me and for the ARCOM medal that I received while over there he tells me I must not have come back.
Wow that's horrible, hopefully you can get that fixed soon...seems like the post above is way to get it fixed..

I was also sent over as a filler TDY from B CO 1-12inf Ft Carson, CO 1990-1991. We were also selected,"don't know how that transpired", and was ran through a ringer of attachments/detachments; orders and new orders. Finally was attached to 101st av bdg as door gunner on a ch-47. To this day I can't recall the unit. thats how screwed up things were. I am trying to identify the unit I was with all my orders were lost? I have obviously not looked in the correct area to find my unit , or know how to locate the unit that I was attached to> can anyone help?????? :?

I appreicate the info.
I was Temporarily assigned there in March and April '91, coming from/back to shore duty.
I read your previous post about the criteria for the KLM. I believe I qualify for the medal itself (no subsequent awards). My DD-214 reflects the Southwest Asia Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon. I got out in early 1995, but DID NOT receive the Kuwait Liberation Medal. Actually I didn't receive the SouthWest Asia Medal either.
A couple questions.

Do I write my U.S. Navy Office with my DD-214 in St. Louis for the Medal(s)?
Where do I go to get a SF 180 form? Do I need that before I send the request?
What about the certificates that accompany the medal. Are there any, even if generic? I know when I receied the Navy Achievement Medal, there was cerficiate with it saying what did to earn it.

I noticed yuor post mentioned the Saudi Arabia's Liberation of Kuwait Medal. I don't know if I qualify for that.
What about the "Commemorative Liberation of Kuwait Medal?"
I doubt if I have any orders sending me there. (I moved five/six times since I got out) keeping TAD orders wasn't a priority. I may find them in one of my files hidden under the garage. :)
Sorry if I missed a post explaining some of these answers, just needed to get my questions out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
THANKS a lot.
Dakota
