Re: Leaving/losing jobs due to temper

My issue with work and pushing the time off part is something we do not force here. Florida is an "At Will" state which means I can be fired for basically nothing if they want to. We have been going through layoffs, combining of positions, and cancelling of contracts due to positions being eliminated left and right around here. I'm not pushing anything around here if I do not need to. It just sucks that I made my requests 2 weeks+ out and nothing was done about it.

The plus is that shortly after I posted yesterday I called the VA back to ask about a cancellation notice and someone had just cancelled and they were going to call me to see if I could come in today at 2pm so in the end it worked out.

I went in this last time through the ER. I told them how I was feeling when I got there and they took immediate care of me. Don't rule this out fellas. If you got to see somebody, go to the ER. Please don't end up on CNN.

Dagger, yes that is a unit patch that I have been trying to upload.

Top, thanks for the info. I had not heard about that yet. Even though I am always on the net surfing for info and new studies I don't always find everything, there is so much out there in cyber-world. The VA website is a maze sometimes to find things as well. Thanks again!

Hey Dagger, did you get my patch up there? Thanks, however my Combat Patch is the 800th MP Bde, it is green and gold with a single sword inside an oak leaf. I appreciate it!

Unfortunately I am dealing with VA Outpatient clinics, my closest VA hospital is 150 miles West of me on the West Coast of Florida. Meeting went pretty well, not what I was expecting. I completed a questionaire and he did agree that I did meet the PTSD criteria and told me that he has a Gulf War Only group that meets every 3rd Friday of the month with an Open PTSD (more Vietnam than any other) group all other Fridays and requested I please come sit in and see what its all about. I told him about the other group I was in and how I really liked it and he felt I would be OK in these groups also. We'll see.

I go to a hospital for my appointments. I have two clinics within 30 miles, but neither has any specialty care, so I go 2 hrs to the hospital. It certainly makes for a long day. I wish I could say that it's worth it ... sometimes it is.

The BH health folks helped a lot, intitially. I learned quite a bit about the what, why, and how of PTSD. Just that part alone makes more of a difference to me than all the other groups stuff. The BH clinician I was seeing had a cognitive processing group, a pain management group, and anger management group, and a couple of other groups which I don't remember the names, but they were pretty helpful.

I use the knowledge I got from the groups often, especially the recognition stuff ... I'm aware that shit is going wrong and I can do things to intervene before I go over the edge ... most of the time ... much, much better now than I used to be.

Anyway, enough about me ... good luck with group ... hope you find some relief in them.

I have taught myself so many coping skills over the years. I can see so many of the signs now that I can self-intervene in many cases. I only wish I could have managed this many years ago before I ruined so much of my marriage with the anger and my going on the defensive as far as I could go. Those wounds I caused her will never heal and I don't expect the forgiveness our marriage really needs to ever happen but I still work at it as much as I can and refuse to the divorce route not only because I want to see my kids anytime I want but because I want her too. Sorry if it sounds selfish.

Thanks, group for me starts this Friday and I am looking forward to it. Talking with you Gulf vets here is great but doing it in person will be a lot different, they are persons and you all are essentilly words on a screen nonetheless still vet brothers.

Good luck with group bro. I learned a lot in the group I was in this last time. It was CPT group. Do what you gotta do for that family and yourself. I hope it is rewarding for you.

Words on the screen is actually what helps me be more honest here than elsewhere. Yor are correct that is very different than discussing stuff in person.

I met with a BH provider today, the first time in more than a year. I was suprised how much I had reverted back to old behaviors. We set another appt and he wants to refer me to a pain specialist again ... I'll do it in hopes of something better than what I'm doing now.

Selfish? ... isn't that what self preservation is all about? Aren't we conditioned to take care of ourselves first ... keep ourselves fit both mentally and physically so we can take care of others? I think it is the best kind of selfish ... drive on!

Don't get me wrong, there words on a screen help more than I can describe...and you know what I am talking about so I don't need to describe it but having a real-time interaction with bodies that know it first hand is also a great help. Between the two, I cannot imagine more help.

I have been called selfish more times than I can remember and while part of me sees it, I cannot help it at the same time. I try and try but in some ways, selfish is what allows me to function sometimes.

I can relate. I sometimes wonder if I wouldn't get along better if I were more selfish ... not selfish but more restrictive in what I share with others.

If you are married or have a very close girlfriend then try to include her in your selfishness, I blocked my wife out of so much over the first 10 or so years that we knew each other that it eventually created problems like accusations of cheating and hiding things when that really was not the case. I just kept it bottled up inside and wanted to keep it to myself. Now when I mention any of those things, I get the "rolling of the eyes" and comments that I take as meaning she thinks I am more or less "full of scheisse". Work with her and she will work with you.
