It damn sure is a bumpy road ... but I've learned something in my dealings with them ... fight for what you need ... get up in their face ... knock on some doors ... use their 'Chain of Command' and don't ever give up ... keep fighting for what you need.

Redfish ... I've been stuck in one hell of a rut ... trying to do shit, but just can't seem to get much done. Gets frustrating, which leads to blame, which leads to self criticism, which leads to anger, which leads back to, "Get off you butt and get something done", and the cycle repeats.

Wanted to do something different this morning, so you all became the focus of my attention this morning ... for better or worse.

Hope you have an easier time soon top. Are your meds right? I'm learning that many times with me and the vets around me, it's all about the meds. Wish I knew the cure or could do more.

No meds ... I stopped all of them, can't take the side effects.

Same hear, wish we could heal each other, but we can't. The ability to vent and be understood is a big help.

It is great having these forums to hear that you are not alone. I was a "filler" in my unit in DS and have no local brothers and sister (at least not from that war) to talk to about what I am going through.

I too left a very well paying job in 93' due to my temper. I skipped around from job to job for several years until I got the job I have now. Working for the DOD I have a lot of fellow vets that I work with but none from the PGW. Hopefully I will be able to make till retirement. My boss is great, he totally understands my illnesses and the difficulty I have with my health. It's reassuring when you tell your boss that your memory is deteriorating and he tells you not to worry, they will take care of me. The bennies of working for the Feds, they can't fire a disabled vet.

Well, 2 weeks ago I requested someone to cover for me so I could go to the VA for my 1st visit with the VA Shrink. Guess what never happened! I missed the appointment and when I called a few minutes ago to reschedule, I was told it would be late July / early August "at the earliest" before I could get back in for another appt with him. I am so pissed.

Thanks Top, I am on disability and I recently called my patient advocate to ask about getting in to see another doc because the one that I see for GWI doesn't do much for me other than take notes and shrug his shoulders at my symptoms saying "yes, this is all GWI". I'm like "dude can't you offer any relief?" He was worthless to me..... So now I see a Nurse Practitioner at the clinic that is near my work, rather than an hour away from my home, and she has been very proactive about getting me in for referrals with specialists. She is also helping me with my medications and knows how to play the game with the politics of the VA to get me what I need!

I'm at 50% now and am being reassessed for an updated C&P.

Hey Dagger, Did they offer to put you on a cancellation list? Also, have you tried speaking with a Patient Advocate? This what they do:

Roles:
Serves as a liaison between a patient and the medical center
Acts on the patient's behalf
Helps patients understand their rights and responsibilities

I know I have gotten my appointment screwed up before but I went to my appt. a week before so I at least didn't miss it.

Good luck Dagger!

Would that be the patch you are trying to load? The avatar process is "ate the Frick up".

Dagger,

Most BH health clinics have a 'walk in' basis also ... it may, probably will, take more time, but they will see you. It may not be your designated doc, but they will talk with and help get things rolling with BH.

I'd suggest calling the BH health clinic and asking them if you can do a walk in.

Seems like everything that the VA does is on a 30 day basis ... it really sucks and you have every right to be mad as hell ... but don't let their bullshit stop you from getting the care that you need and deserve.

Call the clinic, call the patient advocate, call the hospital chief of staff, call the hospital director.

The other side of this ... work ... you couldn't take time off for a scheduled medical appt? How can that be? I aint you and I aint in your particular situation ... but it seems that your work should have made sure that you were covered for your appt ... might be a conversation to have with your human resource representative ... doesn't bode well for you employer if they won't allow time off for a veteran to get necessary medical care ... seems like something is wrong with that ... might be worth checking into.

Hang tough Dagger ... you'll get it lined out, control the situation, don't let it control you ... easy to say ... harder to do.

Have you heard about the War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (WRIISC). I'd suggest everyone that can get a referral and get the evaluation. Your PC is the one to do the referral.
