I spent a month with the ROK Army on some hill with some number on it helping them dig in. They were rough dudes. Loved Jack Daniels. Ate the nastiest stuff and hated Katusa's. We were supposed to eat our meals with them but whew. We complained enough that our CO came out to eat with us. Later that night we started getting "T" rats brought out.

GI's down town TDC always reminded of that movie Gremlins. When all the Gremlins were in that bar. Some gambling, some fighting, some drinking, one had a knife, one swinging from the ceiling fan, some throwing things.....wild. They were the worst of times. They were the best of times.

That's 'bout right ... the gremlins ... never put them together before, but that is exactly what the ville was like. Hell you had to ... wasn't no room for no sissies on the guns ... 2ID was a mean place all the way around ... didn't matter where you were ... that's why the north stayed north.

We did a lot of work with the ROKs ... part of our mission was to shoot in support of the ROKs in a couple of places on the corridor. They are tough.

I shot a competition in 80 against a ROK mortar section, they lost and got their asses kicked by their own chain-of-command. We were in a firing position with a M102 (105mm howitzer). These ROK mortars came in and set up right in front of us. I mean 20 meters in front of our tube. I check fired, but was told to continue shooting. We kept shooting, they started shooting. Next thing, we are getting call for fire from the ROK FOs and they are getting call for fires from our FO. Gets into a who can shoot the fastest between the mortars and us. They gave us (the ROK mortar and me) a set of firing data with an 'at my command' and when they said go we both cut loose. We shot 20 rds or so to their 18 or so. They was pissed!

Their chain of command showed up and started kicking ( literally ) their asses and we march ordered out of there to another firing position.

Just one of those memories ... I was a Sgt then ... gun chief ... 6th howitzer section ... A Btry 1/15th FA.

Wow. What a story. That was the ROK army. Do everything the hard way. The dug tank ditches and tank holes by hand.

The had security around their posts that were wires tied to tin cans. Remember on the tops of the concrete fences were pieces of ground glass.

I remember the DMZ as being and eerie place. We were out at a listening post on top of some mountain.

You're right we stayed in the field over there with TS and ARTEPs

Finally getting hit with the white stuff up here.

About this time in '90, I was trying to get in as many trips to Christkindlesmarkt in Nurnberg before we deployed.

About this time in '92, we were unloading tracks from the railhead after dark, during a blizzard, at Oberwildflecken. Just getting back from Hoenfels. Pretty tricky drive up the cobblestone at Wildflecken. Did make at least one trip to Christkindlesmarkt again.

Never made it very far out of Ansbach ... went to Graf once, spent most of my time in Germany in the Officer's club, or deploying back to the states after DS.

Anxious for the snow to get here. Had it in the blue ridge but being 30 miles from it, we got rain mix. Blah.

Any body snowed in? Crappy nasty rain here. Rain and 38. All we need now is for the wind to blow.

Nope, not snowed in yet. I think we will be next month but I would be surprised if it happened this month.

We got about an inch last night, but it turned to rain overnight and is all but gone now. It is supposed to get very windy and the temp is supposed to drop like a rock this afternoon.
