The VA back pays any approved claim to the time that the claim was filed. For example, if you file a claim for an increased rating in July of 2006 and the VA approves the rating increase in December of 2007, than the VA will issue a check, either paper or direct deposit whichever may be the method of payment you receive in approximately 10 to 14 days of their decision for the difference in your monthly benefit payment for the period from July of 2006. After that you would receive the monthy payment based on your percentage and whether or not you have any dependents. If it was a new claim that you filed, than you would get the monthly benefit payment for the elapsed time from when you filed your claim to when the decision was approved in a lump sum payment with the regular monthly benefit payment being made for each month that follows. Hope that this was helpful.
