At "Camp Windy" Christmas of '91 , there was an artifical (sp?) tree in the oderly room / command tent . Local bussiness's from Colorado Springs , Colorado , had sent over gifts . Everyone got something , mostly sports wear , t-shirts , running shoes , shorts . I had "KP" , I remember it being a damn good meal and more joking and laughing than I'd heard in quite a while .
As for "Jarheads" , I aint seen it . I got it as a stocking stuffer this year , so I'll wacth it soon .

What a waste of space in your stocking. You will be upset with it when seeing it because it was not a good depiction of what DS really was like.

I know a Marine trucker , in and out of the Corp . He saw it with his family . He said "if You discount the usual hollywood military bashing . It aint all that bad ." . I saw the reviews here . Some hated it , I'm guessing that You would be counted in that group . I doubt I'll love it , maybe there will be something of worth in it . I tell Y'all in a few days .

How did You guys celebrated Christmas in Desert?
I celebrated Christmas '90 by taking the shit burning detail from the members of my platoon. They basically got a day off while me and another NCO burned all the shit and cleaned out the shitters .... nothin' big, but it gave the lower enlisted a break.

The most action in the movie is when one of the main characters went off on the officer after the officer cancelled his shot when he had the target in his sites. Other than that, the action was on shit burning detail. Basically, the movie shows about 1/100 of the action that I saw...then again I was 1st Infantry Division - Army.

The only thing that I saw that was even remotely truthful to me was the shit burning and the drinking of the moonshine. Other than that it was a big waste of time.

So you got "Screwed per View". I watched it with my wife and I contradicted so many things (from an Army point of view) and of course all she could say was "its only a movie" and I had to agree on that part.

Hollywood could do so much better if they tried. Look at movies like Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, and my all time favotire war movie Saving Private Ryan (which I will not watch again until I can see it on at least 50" of plasma and surround sound).

I brought a little 3ft artificial tree and had it set up in our rig. This year, I packed it up and sent it over to my friend who's on his third tour there now. I also had a Bing Crosby cassette tape. Now, he has an MP3 player and internet access. :?

I never saw Jarhead... is it really that bad? My son is reading the book, though.
