War Hero Impersonators

Post by curious13 » Wed Mar 21, 2007 11:41 am

What can be done if a person is impersonating a war veteran? The person in question is telling that he served in Desert Storm, and was shot in the line of duty. He was NOT in Desert Storm! I am disguisted by this, and would like to know what can be done. Please respond.

There really isn't a lot that can be done. I do believe it is against the law to portray such a thing in a profesional manner but as just some shmo claiming he was there, theres not much recourse I don't believe.

Sorry for using the wifes sign in but ask him for a copy of his DD214 then say put up or shut up. If he continues ask him if ya should contact the VA and ask them if he is receiving benefits. Puting these posers on the defensive is the best ya can do.

As far as anyone knows he may just have been a REMF over there.

You may also request under the Freedom of information copies of his service records, you will need his name dob and ssn.

Well being from Kentucky we usually take posers out behind the barn

There are plenty of losers who do that. Read "Stolen Valor", a book dedicated to unmasking war hero impersonators.

If he's claiming to have received the purple heart or any other award he can be prosecuted under the Stolen Valor Act. http://en.wikipedia.org/ ... 05

He does NOT have to wear a medal, he can be prosecuted for just saying it. These posers are everywhere and there are organizations that will force a written addmission and apology, they will get it aired on the local news and have it printed in local news papers.

Navy Seals are notorious and ruthless when it comes to posers, as are the Army Rangers, Paratroopers, Special Forces, Association of the Purple Heart, and the Association of the Medal of Honor. And if he received any money at all in conjunction with his lies he will face Jail, fines and fraud charges.

If ya can get him go get him, make him pay for being a liar dishonoring those who served and sacrificed.
