First night was ok. I have to up the setting on my CPAP. It is on three, I am going to try four tonight. The machine ramps from 6 to 19 over a thirty minute period and I had to reset it a couple of times last night. I am also going to the mask fitting class at the hospital tomorrow night (everytime I tried to sleep on my side the mask leaked). I am going to talk to my Service Officer about the Apnea and see if it can be SC. That Gulfwarvets.com message board has a lot of information about people trying to get it SC.

I turned the humidity up to the highest setting (5) and it did seem to help. There was almost no water left in the tank this morning. My mouth wasn't as dry and I find myself breathing through my nose in the morning instead of my mouth. :D I also tightened up the mask so that I can sleep on my side.

Careful wtih that humidity setting, you forcing yourself to BREATHE in more water into your lungs. Use it for the first few days but then back it down a setting or so every other day after that weining yourself off so much of it.

OK thanks. I will sleep with it up a couple of more days then start to turn it down. I find myself better rested in the morning but now I find myself tired in the afternoon. I guess that I am just getting used to the machine.

I went to the VFW Service Officers school this weekend and I learned that sleep apnea is a service connected disability for ODS veterans. I am going to fill out the paperwork (and have the VFW represent me) and send it in this week. They said that it will take about a year but it will be back dated to the date when they first recieved the claim. I will keep everyone informed on my progress.

I wonder what kind of rating they would give you on that. I should go ahead and file myself. I wonder if they would backpay me to when my civilian doctor diagnosed me with it 5 or so years ago.

It is better than before but I still wake up several times a night because my mouth is dry. I am going to try to find a chin strap sometime this weekend.

Well I sent in my compensation paperwork to the VA today. I guess now I just need to wait and see if they set up an appointment of if they just brush me off.
