I had been doing some reading up on the Combat Action Medal and if I remember right, none of us would have been eligible for it because of the date it was approved for was sometime after DS.

Maybe that info has changed but it seems like it was for Bosnia/Kosova timeframe and newer.

I earned these two Medals, so my mission has been accomplished. I was on a DOD website, and there are 131000 unclamed medals sitting in a warehouse. So either some people don't care or know about them. If I wasn't on these Gulf war forums I wouldn't have known anything about them either.

I am looking into medals that you would have gotten without orders (Like SWA, Basic Army Service, etc.). A friend of mine is a retired CSM (E-9) and has a book that tells about them. I will let you know if I find out anything.

New guy here.

I requested a one-time re-issue of all my awards. I just received a letter from NPR yesterday that said they must refer my inquiry to the US Army Human Resources Command because the NPR has no record of my unit for issue of the KLM-SA. Anyone ever run into this problem? I was with D Trp 1-1 CAV 1st AD during DS, so I figured there would be no problems at all. :?

I ran into a host of problems with the VA and MILPERSCOM because my DD-214 did not show any of my Desert Storm time. I got my local COngressman involved and along came a DD-215 correction showing my time and appropriate medals.

Do you have copies of any of your orders or unit orders sending you to DS?

I would have to look. That stuff has been packed up for years. My 214 does reflect the Southwest Asia Service Medal though.

One KLM was issued by the Saudi Government.
One was issued by the Kuwaiti Government.

My belief was that the Kuwaiti one was only issued to those who crossed the border into Kuwait during the liberation.
If I am incorrect, let me know. I only received the Saudi Version.

I never left Saudi Arabia, I was just issued both, I finally got them on my DD214 ( DD 215) is the form that they are on. They sent the Medals in the mail, I got them in November. I also got a Certificate from a General in the Saudi Military thanking me for being there, it was from a Air base that I wasn't even at.

I was in Iraq and Kuwait so I should qualify for both I assume.

I have had mine reviewed and they didn't list the Saudi medal on it. I need to check into that some more.
