You know it REDMAXX...
Shake the hand of a soldier this weekend and thank him for protecting you - and the rest of America

I watched the flag pass by one day.
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
and then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of TAPS one night,
When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That TAPS had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.

i belong to the american legion, along with the boy scouts here, we do this honor every year.the legion pays for the flags, and tries to update the veterans lists as best as we can. there"s over 200 cemeteries in our county....alot of walkin. but well worth it, makes you proud, honored to see all those flags waving in the wind and families thanking you for doing it. lets them know that their loved ones haven"t been forgotten, nor the sacrafice of the fallen will ever be forgotten.

Haze, That makes me real proud brother. You honor all of us with that sort of dedication. I may actually ease down to the legion or vfw and join again. Real proud....real proud. I worked today but I won't next year.

I take care of a small cemetery; cut the grass, clean out the fences, take old flowers off the stones, etc. I don't know who does it, but there are always flags on the veteran stones on Memorial Day and veterans day.

There are two stones from confederate soldiers that don't get flags, but I always stop for an extra second or so and let them know that I know they are veterans just as well.

The cemetery has 5 generations of my ancestors in it ... so I do what I can for them.

I personally don't think that I do that much, just a bit of upkeep through the year, but I get a lot of gracious comments from folks for doing it. Makes me feel good to do it, so I do it ... my little contribution ... aint much but it's something.

top,
anything that you do to care for the fallen is great, its those little things that matter, an make a differance, to somebody as well as yourself.
