Brain fart, Desert Shield, then Desert Storm, and then what

Post by pneps » Fri Oct 13, 2006 10:18 pm

was the last phase of Desert Shield/Storm called??????

I know there were three phases, and I got all three campaign stars for the ribbon, but cannot for the life of me remember what the last part was called after the cease fire.

TIA

Shield/storm/shield. I was there for all three, they told us we could wear three and they told us that we could only wear two. I was talking to a guy who was in the Airforce in D.S. and he got a big ribbon of the liberation of Kuwait, we never got one of them either, our base commander said it wasn't going on our orders but were authorized to wear it. It's not on my 214.

Was it "Operation Provide Comfort"?

Is that the one that was issued by the Kuwati government? We got one that was issued in a green box with a medal and ribbon, but I don't think it was a US Army one, and I don't think it was on my 214, but there never was a question about wearing it. It just goes beneath all the other ribbons in precedence.

Supposedly, the one from Kuwait has real gold on it. I never have had it looked at to tell for sure, though.

That's the one we were told we could wear, I was on a site with medals, and there were more desert storm medals that I never even heard of.

Ok gentlemen...the third star was for "Operation Provide Comfort". The only gold in the Saudi issued medal is in the shape of Saudi Arabia in the middle of the medal. If you have the Saudi medal that is solid and flat on the back with a number, then you have a solid gold one. I only saw those issued to the high command and to a few SF officers. Us "grunts" got the $10 version.
