I agree with you SW. I tried to tell the story of the Marines of Desert Storm in "Gulf War Chronicles." My next book, "Marines in the Garden of Eden" is due out on June 6. It tells the story of the 2d Marine Regiment's battle for An Nasiriyah. It was the first major battle of OIF. Both books tell th...

As you have demonstrated, JARHEAD was extremely misleading. When I watched it, I thought that it gave the impression that there was no real fighting in Operation Desert Storm. In fact, one of the largest tank battles in history was fought in Operation Desert Storm and the Marines met with resistance...

The Marines have a unique abbreviation; 2d means Second and 3d means Third. So 3d Battalion of the 2d Marine Regiment is Third Battalion of the Second Marine Regiment.

One of the largest tank battles in history was fought in Operation Desert Storm. It was called the battle of the 73rd Easting. The first George Bush decided to not move on to Baghdad. He declared victory and stopped the fighting as soon as our objective of liberating Kuwait was achieved. He was loud...

"Jarhead" was not the "definitive" movie on Desert Storm. It was nowhere close. It left the viewer with the impression that there was little, or no fighting in Opereation Desert Storm. This could not be further from the truth. The Marines fought several battles with the Iraqis. Iraqis counterattacke...

There was also the battle for the Rumayla (not sure of spelling) oil fields. It was the last battle of the war. It actually took place after the cease fire. Iraqis were trying to escape north through the oil field, in view of the 24th MID. The Iraqis fired on the soldiers of the 24th and the America...

Third Anniversary of the Battle of Nasiriyah

An Nasiriyah Revisited Richard S. Lowry It is hard to believe that it has been three years since Jessica Lynch and the 507th Maintenance Company rolled through the dusty streets of An Nasiriyah on March 23, 2003. Eleven of Jessica’s fellow soldiers were killed that morning, five were captured and a ...

James, I wrote "The Gulf War Chronicles" for people just like you. It tells the full story of Operation Desert Storm in a way that will help you understand what happened over there. I would suggest asking your school library to get a copy for you to read. In the meantime, if you have any questions, ...

I hate to admit it but 123 might have a bit of a point. I know how hard our troops are working every day over there to bring the blessing of liberty to the good people of Iraq. But, the ethnic and religous factions over there have been fighting for a long time. They only stopped during Saddam's ruth...
