Re: MRE Meals

I love this quote from the sites "History" page: During Operation Desert Storm, MREs were eaten by troops for far longer than they were originally intended. Originally intended for 10 days or less, many troops ate them for 60+ days. As a result, three changes were quickly made to supplement the MREs...

Re: New VA PTSD Claim Rules

I was originally diagnosed with PTSD in February of 1999 by a Dr. at the VA Medical Center in Batavia, NY. I've been under the care of the VA in Allentown, PA since 2001 when I moved back home. I even spent 3 days at the Wilkes Barre VA Hospital for PTSD related issues back in September of 2005. Com...

New VA PTSD Claim Rules

This may be the wrong forum to post this in but it seems like the most active.

What "Official" information from the VA have you all found? I've done some googling but everything I find is from news sources as opposed to the "Horse's Mouth".

Re: 19 years ago Feb 23-25 Desert Storm G-day began

I remember it well. We gathered up and got our Anthrax shots the night before, loaded the birds, and waited for sunrise. That night was the most peaceful night of rest I got there the entire 8 months I was there. I got there in mid-September and I knew the only way home was through Iraq.

Re: Things you hate since the war.

Meds: 80 mg of Prozac Daily since 1999. 0.5 mg of Lorazapam 2 to 3 times a day as needed. They help to take the edge off of things and allow people that piss me off to remain among the living. Initially tried 2 other meds at the beginning; Wellburtin (sp?) and another one I can't recall. They...

Re: Things you hate since the war.

The Christmas Holiday season. I used to get sick just before Christmas the 1st few years after Desert Storm, now I just get a terrible case of the holiday blues. I guess it has something to do with the fact I was pretty sure Christmas of 1990 would be my last. Since then both my ex-wives left me jus...

26 Years ago Today

It was a Tuesday morning, I had spent the night before at the movies with a buddy. We went to see "Stripe's". I got up around 5 am to get picked up by my Army Recruiter. Me & 3 other guys headed to the Wilkes Barre, PA AFEES. (That's what they used to call the MEPS for you young guys.) I spent most ...

Actually one of the episodes of the PBS special "The War" was sub-titled "FUBAR". According to the writer of the series the terms "FUBAR" & "SNAFU" both came out of WWII. In fact they actually make use of the "F" Bomb  in the episode to explain what it stands for. Gotta' love PBS. Ever hear th...

I'm with you on the fireworks. When the town I live in has their big July 4th display I get out of town. It took me a couple of years to make the connection between the fireworks & the nightmares. Now I stay away at all costs. I lived in the south for a while and when the town blew their Tornado sir...

Anybody besides me watch the great Ken Burns documentary on PBS about WWII? I really enjoyed it. Learned a lot as well.

I'm with you on the heat-hating. Any kind of work in any amount of heat or humidity makes me sweat profusely. I spend most of the summer with my place cooled to 68 degrees. Loud noises, sirens, crowds of people, Vet-posers, guys that claim they were SF/Ranger/CIA/Delta Force or were in "Top Secret u...
