I guess standing there gazing at the pretty explosion remarking what a nice sight was ironic when we discovered it was the "gas" plant the engineers just blew up. Been declared dead twice by the goverment over the years......but as the person before this remarked, combat was the only time that every...

we flew in on American to Dhahran in September, bussed to Jubail port to pick up vehicles and lowboyed out to the Kuwait border. We built our camp...first foxholes, then leentoos and finally tents. It was called Camp Manly. In January we lowboyed to the Neutral Zone and set up camps before going ove...

chemical warfare

I know of one Purple Heart recieved for a chemical wound and that involved mustard gas. He stepped into a booby trap and got zapped. Our alarms went off at various times and we ran into chemical weapons in several places, not being used on us but stacked waiting to be used.

Jarhead

Just thinking I shook hands with those Marines.......lol. Well I don't think they spent all day thinking about their girlfriends. We did some cross training with the marines up on the border and they were nothing like the movie. FYI...Courage Under Fire was to be about the 3rd ACR except after we go...

Veteran Plates

In New Mexico, we have different plates for each service and then they will print what war you were in. Mine says Desert Storm. These cost $15 extra. If you are disabled, then you get free DV plates with your war on them. We even have Desert Storm DV plates for motorcycles. The state just came out w...

Jarhead

I took my youngest to it because he wanted to experience what his old man did. It was a different movie. We crossed trained with the marines over there and to think I shook their hands and I thought they had that cramp from holding their rifles too long.

Do you mean the battle for Ar Rumaylah, the airbase that the 3rd ACR took out. I was there if that is the one you are talking about.

Iraq

Let me first state that I go where ever my country sent me and did the job they trained me for with no problems. In 1990, we should have finished the job when we had world approval, the Iraqi people waiting for us and the inititive to finish in rapid time. But 12 years later we screwed up in my opin...

good info

I'm glad you wrote all that down. I'm going to give it to my service officers so they have more knowledge of the subject.

(on the lighter side, I sent my info to the registry, so 6 months later the government declared me dead. They finally corrected it when I applied for the death gratuity)
