Re: New Here 5/5 CAV

Welcome Home Brother. I was 1/68 Armor, 8th ID...well, they called us 4/34 Armor but we knew better. when 1/68 shut down, my platoon moved as a whole to 4/34 and that unit was messed up like a football bat. our LT was in a Command and Staff meeting and was told 5/5 Cav needed a platoon of tanks his ...

Re: Things you hate since the war.

For me, throwing things have seemed to stop (I realized whatever I broke we had to buy again and I’m cheap) but the verbal abuse was really bad for a long time. My oldest is 20 now and i remember her asking my wife 'is daddy in a bad mood again today' and if the wife told her yes, she would run to...

Re: what are you doing on the 23rd?

J, I know exactly how you feel. it is really hard to find someone who I'm comfortable with sharing my feelings and in the last 20 years I can think of maybe 5 who I can talk to face to face. for me I find it a lot easier to write my feelings. I stumbled across this forum a few daze ago and I see it'...

[quote="haze"]i'm probably gonna go to my local legion hall, order a couple drinks ( i quit my heavy drinking yrs. ago), take one drink over to our pow/mia table that we keep set. light the candle, set the drink down on the table, lite a smoke , set it in the ash tray, and toss my drink back to them...

Re: Combat patches

we were given the option to wear either 8th ID or 3rd AR. I was assigned to 1/68 AR 8th ID in Wildflecken, attached to 4/34 AR 8th ID in Mainz and 4/34 was attached to 1st Brigade 3rd AD. funny thing was 4/34 took 2/32's place while they stayed at The Rock.

Re: Things you hate since the war.

where do I start... civilians just piss me off to no extent...in my eyes, at least 98% have no concept of team work. it's 'what's in it for me?' or when something goes wrong, 'it's not my fault, so & so didn't do this' and take no responsibility for their actions. large crowds...my heart starts to p...

Re: what are you doing on the 23rd?

last month I was sitting a Legion meeting on the 20th Anniversary of the air war and when the Commander asked if anyone had anything to offer for the good of the order I had to stand up and remind everyone what day it was. funny thing is he was Air Force at that time. I missed my VFW meeting this mo...

Re: What was on your Desert Shield/Storm Soundtrack?

me and my driver had pretty much the same taste in music but our TC liked oldies like The Everly Brothers and Tommy James and The Shondells and our loader was into rap like Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre. hell, before I met him, I thought N.W.A. was National Wrestling Alliance. I had a boombox with AM/FM and...

I mean civilian's just don't seem to understand why I eat 600 mg of Zantac (well, the Wal Mart version) and wash it down with a mouth full o...

Re: In Some Real Trouble Involving Bronze Star

I'll have to agree with most here. I know in my unit, 4/34 Armor, the only criteria for the star was E-6 and above while E-5 and below were given ARCOM's and the only ARCOM with V-Device was 'given' to a mechanic who never dismounted his vehicle during the ground war. It could be that your uncle rec...

3rd Armored Divison Desert Storm Units

I was assigned to 4th Tank, 3rd Platoon, D Company, 1st Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment, 8th Infantry Division and a lot of 1/68 AR was attached to 4th Battalion 34th Armor 8th ID. our Platoon was lucky and moved as a whole and prior to move out was sliced to 5/5 Cav. 4/34 from 8th ID replaced 2/32 A...
