Re: The road to Khobar...

My Chief in his very southern accent, I'm talking James Brown took lessons from SSG Manigo, turned and said, "Wat da hell", watched Rag head pull up his Thoub (Dress thing they wear) and squat right out in the desert and pinch off a loaf for all to see. Right there on the side of a busy road, this g...

The road to Khobar...

This story starts out in Ft. Riley Kansas where we had, for the last 2 months, been packing up, loading, and getting ready to fight the battle hardened Iraqi Army, 3rd largest Army in the world, as we were told. We were going over to kill us some "Rag-heads!" The First Infantry Division, The Big Red...

Re: "The Hurt Locker"

I did see this. I think it does a good job of telling the story of how f-ed up things in Iraq are. I also think it does a pretty good job of showing your basic civilian how stupid war is and that it is so underhanded that it will probably never be over. I understood how it portrays the 3 different t...

Re: Things you hate since the war.

I react to smells. I can NOT have dirty diapers inside my house. I don't care if he/she IS just a baby, it is human waste and I can't bare the smell, take it outside. I also HATE the smell of anything dead or burning hair or flesh. I will NOT let my wife turn her curling iron up to high because the ...

Re: 1st ID C BTRY 4/5th FA

I know this story makes the 1-4 Cav mad, but I figure I would post it here in case anyone from my unit remembers and would want to do a 20 year reunion in Feb. http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?AD=ADA251263&Location=U2&doc=GetTRDoc.pdf I did just read the book, "THE ROAD TO SAFWAN" that tried to ...

Re: What was the scariest thing you did or seen in the war?

I recently found one more story that I was DIRECTLY involved in. I was the #1 man and driver for Staff Sargent Manigo's 155MM gun crew 1st platoon 4-5 FA in this story written by John R. Gingrich, LTC, FA. http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?AD=ADA251263&Location=U2&doc=GetTRDoc.pdf *Notice on page...

Patton!!!

This film came out in 1970 and won 8 Academy awards and personifies what a soldier is and is VERY good to remember the brave ones are the heros. Go buy the DVD and listen to the "extra features"-"Pattons life story." It plays over the movie and tells a GREAT story of one of the BEST leaders of the 2...

My Motorcycle vest...

I went to the Elko Motorcycle rally last summer and a buddy I work with told me that my pic was posted on their site. I built the bike myself with the help of my son and brother. I am in "2009 Misc. photos" - Pics 005,006, and 134.

Re: Desert Storm Bar and Grille

A good leader is hard to come by. Just seems like every one is just waiting till the next election. I bet Nobama will be voted out of here so fast his head will be spinning. We need a few of the good ole boys back like we had when we were in the desert (Daddy Bush and Stormin Norman for instance, j...

Re: 1st ID C BTRY 4/5th FA

I remember in PLDC right after the war, we had some tank drivers talking sh!t. Saying, "Just give us a grid and we'll go take care of them!" I popped up and said, "I'm 13B, Give us a grid and we'll take care of em from right here..." They all got quiet pretty quickly. The other tanker said, "I get t...

Re: Kobar Towers

Hey, did anyone have a problem with the phone company when you got back? One thing about staying in Kobar towers is they had phones, something I didn't see much durring the war. I called my then-wife from Kobar and talked with her a few times. I got home to a $1500 phone bill!?!? WTF!?!? I only talk...

Re: ptsd

After reading this, I think I am going to contact my local VA. I have had the same symptoms but I just thought I was being an ass and it was something a combat vet had to just live with. I also went to the shrink when I got back because I had HORRIBLE headaches when I would hear our gun or very loud...
